How to organize dishes for kids so they can find what they need (and even help put them away!)

March 18, 2021
If there is one area of the kitchen that is the most difficult to keep organized, it’s all the plastic cups, plates, bowls, and silverware that belong to the littlest inhabitants in our homes.  Kid dishes tend to accumulate over time, so once your kids are toddlers you are swimming in a sea of mismatched plastic.   The cupboard or drawer holding these items can get junky real quick. But there is a way to fight disorganization and keep this cupboard in check.  After 7+ years of motherhood, I feel like I’ve cracked the code on organizing kid dishes and...

Organizing Pots and Pans in a Corner Cabinet

February 19, 2021
Do you have a corner cabinet lazy susan in your house?  These spinning contraptions make great use of dead space that seems to exist in most kitchens, but from the bendy door to the awkward pie-shaped shelves, it’s a bit of a mystery how best to organize the space. I’ve never had much of a plan for actually organizing the space.  I followed more of a “toss it in and slam the door” method.  But in my recent quest to maximize and organize every inch of my small kitchen, I decided to take it on.   This post contains affiliate...

3 Rules That Revolutionize Tupperware and Food Storage Organization

February 12, 2021
When my kids were babies, their absolute favorite thing to do was to pull all the Tupperware and plastic food storage containers out of a small cabinet next to the stove.  They loved taking everything out and dumping all the lids and bases on the floor before sliding the containers around in a loud, chaotic pile. Even though it made a terrific mess, I was always happy to know that they were playing with something safe (plastic, non-breakable) and nearby, allowing me to wash a few dishes or quickly make dinner. However, now that they are older and more...

MAXIMIZING MUG STORAGE IN THE KITCHEN

January 30, 2021
With all four of us living and working at home these days, we drink a lot of coffee – as well as tea, hot chocolate, and even plain hot water.  This means we go through A LOT of mugs in a day.   And while our kitchen isn’t large, we dedicated an entire narrow cabinet near the stove to organize our mugs and coffee/tea-related items.  It’s one of the most frequently used zones in our kitchen and one that needs to function well. However, every morning I would shuffle to the kitchen, more asleep than awake, to grab a cup...

ORGANIZE TOYS WITH A TOY LIBRARY

January 21, 2021
There’s nothing that makes me feel crazier than toy chaos.  All those little pieces spread all over the floor, getting mixed together, broken, lost, and no storage solution in sight. Or worse, mixed in a jumbled heap at the bottom of a toy box.   I cringe just thinking about it. But let me tell you what has helped turn our toy situation around: organizing our toys in a toy library, with individual storage boxes for each toy.  This consolidates and displays toys so you and your kids can find exactly what you want, when you want, and easily put...

HOW TO ORGANIZE AND STORE CHRISTMAS DECOR

January 5, 2021
There always comes a sad day after Christmas when you realize the holiday decorations have become stale. The fresh garlands are looking brittle, the decor is tired, and the house is feeling cluttered.  As the calendar turns to a new year and you start to look ahead, it’s time to pack up Christmas and strip down your decor so your home can breathe and feel fresh for the new year. But where do you start?  Packing up and storing all those decorations can seem like a daunting challenge.  If you break it down into a few steps and make...

DIY DOLLHOUSE MAKEOVER

December 24, 2020
What’s better than a room makeover?  A whole (miniature) home makeover! Now, truthfully, this was supposed to be a Christmas present for my 2.75-year-old daughter, but, it may have been for me too.  Just a little bit.  Last summer I found a dollhouse on Facebook Marketplace that looked really intriguing.  I picked it up and realized how good of a find it was.  It’s the Plan Toys First Dollhouse (affiliate link / non-affiliate link) and normally retails for around $150.  So finding it for $20 felt like an absolute steal!  We played with the house as-is before realizing my...

CHRISTMAS HOME TOUR

December 17, 2020
Happy holidays, friends!  Today I’m taking you on a tour of our house to show you the festive touches we have added to help our home feel comfortable and cozy during the Christmas season.  2020 has been a really strange year.  I’m honestly very thankful that I’m a homebody and love working on my house because we sure had a lot of time for that this year!  Maybe it’s because I had too much time, but it took me a few weeks to get my holiday decorating just right.    We initially set up the tree near our built-in...

DIY WOOD BEAD GARLAND

December 14, 2020
Even though December is one of the busiest months in our household, I still like to squeeze in a few holiday DIY projects.  Busy people get things done, right?  This Christmas I was feeling particularly inspired by natural elements and a simple neutral color palate.  I’ve been loving all of the wood bead garlands I’ve seen at various retailers and figured this would be an easy DIY project that could potentially save me a few dollars. I’m happy to report that it was incredibly simple to make my own garland, and actually kind of relaxing.  The smooth wood beads...

Paper clutter is my nemesis. Is it yours too? I Paper clutter is my nemesis. Is it yours too?

I realized what I was missing was a process for handling incoming paper and a “home” for it to live while it was being processed.

So I turned a pair of wall mounted bookshelves into a paper processing center. Here’s how the paper flows:

1) Inbox - all paper goes on here to be sorted.
2) Action box - for anything that needs something to happen (RSVP, bill to pay, form to sign, etc)
3) Wait & See bin - for anything I might need to take action on but for now I just have to wait and see.
4) Desktop file boxes - for anything that needs to be saved long term
5) Recycle bin for everything else!

Nice looking boxes suggested, not required. 🙂
