Something about school starting soon has me feeling energized and ready to tackle some projects around the house. I’ve been making moodboards, making plans and getting out my spray paint cans – ha! So get ready for some good before/after content coming your way!
First up is our breakfast nook. Now, calling this a nook is probably generous. Our kitchen is tiiiiiny and this sliver of space is where we actually eat most of our meals.
The space itself is light and bright, but not exactly inspiring. Staring at the blank white wall was somehow a bit empty and claustrophobic at the same time.
So, when Photowall reached out to see if I would like to try their wall murals, I jumped at the chance to add some pattern and color to this little, well used space.
I had a hard time choosing, but ultimately ended up selecting the Happy Yellow II premium wallpaper. It inspired me to make a mood board for the space as well as look at finally changing out the dreaded boob lights that have been bothering me since we moved in.
Here’s what I put together:
Mid century light fixture – I bought this fixture in the 3 globe model, which looks like it is currently unavailable. This is the 6 globe model and is just as beautiful. I love how these hang down enough to add visual interest to the space, but not enough that it would be in the way of tall people walking underneath.
Wall mural – Love the grey and yellow color scheme. It’s a bit bolder than I usually go, but I figure a breakfast nook is the perfect place to push the envelope.
Dining table – This is the best, most inexpensive small dining table I’ve ever owned. It has a melamine top that can be wiped down with disinfectant spay daily and still looks brand new.
Black shell chairs – Budget find from Amazon. We previously used these around our ‘formal’ dining table but they seem to go better in this space.
Brass Clock – Ours is original to the house and built into the wall. This one looks very similar and can be purchased from Burke Decor.
You are the coolest print – Quirky and positive – just the thing to see before heading out into the world.
Turntable – Yup, just a normal acrylic turntable. But place it on the table and suddenly it’s the perfect place to corral napkins and salt & pepper shakers
Vase – This one is super cute.
Brass napkin holder – Anything that encourages napkin use in my household is a winner.
Wood salt and pepper shakers – So pretty they can stay out on the table all the time.
Ok, now for some real talk – I actually put up the wallpaper today (!!!) And it looks great! I’m surprised how easy it was to put up and that I could do it without any help. I can’t wait to share the refreshed space next week once I add the finishing touches and get some art on the wall.
Be sure to follow along on Instagram where I’ll share more behind the scenes from this refresh!
